MAMERTINO NERO D'AVOLA

A very ancient wine whose name comes from the Mamertines ("sons of Mars"), a people who settled on the hills surrounding Milazzo and Patti during the Roman era. They, in fact, were the ones who, in 289 BC planted the grapes used to produce the different versions of this wine.
GRAPE VARIETIES: Nero d’Avola (at least 85%), other red grape varieties
VINEYARD: contrada Ronzino, Patti (Messina), 300 m. a.s.l. Organic
TRAINING SYSTEM: on espaliers and cordon-trained and spur pruned
TIME OF HARVEST: during the last 10 days of September
WINEMAKING: maceration under controlled temperature (28°-29°C) for 4-5 days in steel
AGEING: in barriques for 6 months and in the bottle for at least 4 months
ALCOHOL CONTENT: 13.5% by vol.

COLOUR deep ruby red
AROMA varietal and fruity over a subtle, toasty edge
TASTE warm and balanced
